Art is the Heart of the Home Community Initiative
Everyone has a right to a home and everyone deserves a beautiful thing in that home. HomeSpace Society working with Inn From the Cold is redeveloping a building in downtown Calgary to be 72 housing units for about 180 vulnerable Calgarians including low-income families with children, single mothers, Indigenous people, seniors, and newcomers to Canada. This project is to provide original art to all of the tenants of the Sierra Place building to bring the heart to the home.
By also providing art supplies for an art room the residents are able to actively engage in the arts and this will enhance their sense of community within the building.
Make a Donation
Through our donors this project will also support local artists, and to provide access to art supplies to the residents. Donations can be made using the "Donate" button to link to HomeSpace's site. Make sure to select the fund for “ART is Heart of Home.”

Get Involved as an ArtistApply
We are looking for Canadian artists (with a preference for a Calgary and other Alberta Artists due primarily to shipping costs) who want to participate by providing original paintings, preferably at least 12"x12" square, 12" round, or, 16"x20" rectangle. Art should be ready to hang either canvas with finished edges or otherwise in a frame. At this time artists can provide up to five paintings.
The theme and style should be based on original ideas and work and be reasonably described as joyful, or positive. this isn't the time for a dark, gloomy subject matter.
While fundraising is underway, the artists hopefully will receive an honorarium to cover basic costs.
We are also collecting any new or almost new art supplies you have that could be added to the art room being created for the residence of Sierra Place.
In addition to the satisfaction of being part of something exciting in our community, participating in this project will also provide other opportunities for artists including the opportunity to participate in an exhibition, to have work showcased at the grand opening or Sierra Place, and to be able to participate in offering art classes or demos to the residents in the new art room.
We are also seeking artists to design posters that will be printed and provided to each of the children and teens in the building.
Please complete the form attached and we will reach out to you.
