“No Mow May” is a call to help wild pollinators and other wildlife in the greenspaces where we live.… so we let our grass grow… and I was inspired to make my first bee mug! To capture some honeycomb texture on the clay I have come up with two methods: bubble wrap and a beeswax candle! I try to make my own stamps or create my own texture with found objects whenever I can. The texture was made by rolling the candle onto the rolled out slab before construction. The flowers are created using under glaze transfers from Sanbao. I think this combination of glazes and transfers is my favourite so far! The addition of the QUEEN to the mug just seemed natural, fun and empowering to me. I know a lot of strong, beautiful Queen Bees in my life who deserve this mug :) At the artist’s request, the gallery will donate $2.00 from this sale to the arts.
