I made the dragonfly mug and the small planter featured in the gallery after a dear friend of mine asked me to make her some memorial plaques for her daughter who had tragically passed away. Her only request for the plaque was that it had to have dragonflies. I hand carved my own leaf stamp to create the background texture and I used a sprig mold that is normally used for cake fondant to create some (but not all) of the intricate details of the dragonflies. Transferring the molded clay and all of its tiny parts was a detailed and time consuming process but the memorial plaques were very special and I wanted them to be just right. I will continue experimenting with this dragonfly mold and various other glaze combinations and hand carved stamps on upcoming handcrafted pieces. *Note: all of my artwork is hand built, hand carved and painted and molds are not typically used.At the artist’s request, the gallery will donate $2.00 from this sale to the arts.
